Park Jae Hyung, Chief Engineer, said that the rival product can detect up to 200 m range whereas Smart IDS is unique product covering the range of 1 km.

Currently Smart IDS is installed between Seoul toll gate and Suwon IC of which district records the highest traffic volume in Korea. In addition to that, the West Sea bridge where the potentially high rate of traffic accidents is foreseen due to foggy condition and Ansan city local road is another one installing Smart IDS. The Daejun-Sejong express way where Cooperative ITS (C-ITS)  is applied will be equipped with Smart IDS in first half of 2016. Besides that, Gangnam Ring road tunnel in Seoul is about to install Smart IDS.

Smart IDS is weather proof radar sensing system. It verifies vehicles in road and obstacles(falling objects, broken car, wrong way driving, pedestrian etc) in real time, all weathers, day and night, it helps to prevent accidents from happening for driver.

Smart IDS consists of radar sensor, controller and operating software. The existing human eye detecting or CCTV base detection system show obvious limit due to passive manner and weather dependent system. Because of that, it takes so long for command center/ drivers to recognize the accident and take an appropriate actions.

Smart IDS has no adverse effect because of robust and 24 hrs surveillance capability. It further focus on the accident by CCTV’s automatic tracing. In turn it saves the reaction time so that secondary accidents can be minimized, It can be easily adopted with existing infrastructure such as CCTV, communication network so that the installation cost can be significantly reduced.

In 2015, in recognition of leading edge technology, Smart IDS was remarked as “New Technology” mark by government.

Park Jae Hyung, Chief Engineer, said that government is encouraging to introduce Smart IDS to nationwide road system along with pursuing standardization. Thanks to that, the market is expected to grow drastically and Smart IDS shall play a key role for C-ITS and self-driving car era.
