Digital Transformation and Innovation of Traffic Operations Management Completed with 'Traffic Digital Twin Platform'
As the fourth industrial revolution
technology, information and communication (ICT), big data, artificial
intelligence (AI), and SW technologies are constantly developing. The
convergence of single technologies has opened the era of full-fledged
hyper-intelligence, connection, virtualization, and intelligence, and the use
of digital twin technology that reinforces visualization in three dimensions is
expanding significantly across all industries.
Metabuild has been recognized for its
excellence by commercializing its own middleware technology (MESIM
ESB/IoT/APIG/mHUB) for 25 years to solve the limitations of the existing
traffic management system. To solve the problem, Metabuild used middleware
technology, radar technology (Smart IDS/VDS), big data technology (MESIM
DataHUB), artificial intelligence platform technology (MAI AUTO), and
visualization technology (TRAFFIC TWIN) for the first time in the
transportation field.
In order to overcome the limitations of
roof sensors and video cameras of existing traffic management systems, Smart
IDS/VDS products, which were researched and commercialized for the first time
in the world, have patented a radar system that can detect cars and pedestrians
on the road from hundreds of meters to 1 kilometer, and have been recognized
for their excellent technology that it has been supplied to 2,000 sections in
Korea and abroad. It is being used in a system that collects traffic
information and emergency situation information within a specific road section
in the recently established national highway ITS and next-generation
transportation system (C-ITS) projects.
Using Metabuild's Smart IDS/VDS, it
operates as a digital twin-based transportation integrated platform that
detects and provides driving speed and location data of vehicles driving on the
road, as well as unexpected situations such as accidents and road obstacles in
real time.
Metabuild's data connection and
integration(MESIM ESB/IoT/APIG/mHUB) products collect on-site data collected
from radar systems, traffic sensors, weather sensors, and CCTV installed and
operated at road sites in real time, and are used to link various information
such as construction information, weather information, and accident information
managed by other systems.
Data collected in real time through the
traffic digital twin platform can be stored and managed in MESIM DataHUB, and the
location and speed of vehicles running on the digital road based on a precise
map corresponding to the road in the target section, as well as accident and
unexpected situation information, can be used in real time to implement the
same traffic flow in the digital twin.
The information accumulated in the digital
twin can be used for traffic operation and management through various
statistical analysis, simulation, and AI models through the artificial
intelligence platform. In addition to the data collected in the road
infrastructure, the actual traffic flow is provided as a digital twin using
data such as the location, speed, acceleration, and deceleration of the vehicle
collected through the C-ITS wireless communication terminal (OBU) installed in
the vehicle.
Metabuild has grown into the No. 1 company
in middleware SW since its foundation in 1998, and since 2008, it has developed
and commercialized a radar-based emergency situation detection system through
the smart highway project of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and
Transport, drawing attention in earnest in the transportation business.
Metabuild is growing with the goal of developing next-generation traffic
control and operation technology by converging radar technology and SW
technology. Its traffic detection system will be commercialized as a traffic
digital twin flat by installing AI platform and linkage SW.
For example, many types of roads such as
the Korea Expressway Corporation's Seohae Bridge, Gyeongbu Expressway,
Jaeyaksan Tunnel, National Road, and Incheon Airport Highway are using
real-time integrated traffic control platform and response to unexpected
situations through the transportation digital twin platform developed and
supplied by Metabuild. Recently, a digital twin-based autonomous vehicle
control platform has been established and operated in Daegu 5G autonomous
driving test road and Saemangeum commercial autonomous driving testbed project.
Metabuild has been researching, developing
and supplying digital twin platforms not only in the transportation sector, but
also in various fields such as construction equipment and processes, urban
structures, air quality, energy, buildings, and drones, and will continue to
work to ensure that digital twin technology can be applied to more fields.
It plans to apply various visualization technologies to implement real objects as digital objects and develop the data accumulated on the digital twin platform into a technology that finally implements the metaverse by connecting the virtual and real worlds such as various cognition, judgment, prediction, decision-making, and autonomous control through artificial intelligence models and learning.
