Metabuild selected as supplier of 'radar traffic detector' at ITS smart intersection in Seongnam City
Metabuild announced on the 6th that it will
supply the country's first "radar traffic detector (SMART VDS)" with
better performance and economy than video models to the project to introduce
transportation radars at smart intersections in Seongnam City.
Metabuild's SMART IDS is the world's first
radar identifier that detects distances of up to 1 kilometer. Metabuild
developed the product and commercialized it both domestically and
internationally.
The operator of the project is SK Telecom,
which plans to install about 770 radars at 215 major smart intersections. The
project is to prepare for the next generation of cooperative intelligent
vehicles (CITS) and autonomous driving.
Metabuild will establish an intelligent
digital twin control platform and a smart intersection system based on radar
traffic detectors in Seongnam-si's ITS construction project and start service
to the public in July next year.
"The traffic control platform will be
operated based on the company's artificial intelligence (AI) + linkage + data
hub commercial software (SW) used by more than 4,000 organizations," said
an official at Metabuild. The optimal signal time is calculated by collecting
information on individual vehicles at smart intersections in Seongnam City by
using the 350-meter detection distance "SMART VDS," which is
installed and operated in more than 2,000 sections. The goal is to reduce
waiting times for intersections and to allow safer and faster traffic flow.
The radar system can overcome environmental
impacts even in bad weather where it is difficult to check by using CCTV, and
accurately monitor road traffic conditions at all times to prevent secondary
accidents. Recently, a 158-car collision occurred due to super fog in the U.S.
Metabuild's "SMART VDS" and "SMART IDS" are installed in large foggy areas such as Yeongjong Bridge, Seohae Bridge, and Geoga Bridge, or in all sections of the pole tunnel with sudden traffic hazards such as Namsan Tunnel, Jaeyaksan Tunnel, and Chuncheon Tunnel.
